Wednesday September 16, 2015

Today began with a delightful morning meeting from Lucas.

In science we tested how different materials change the outcome of an experiment.  We brought out boat lengths back to 3 cm. but this time looked at Styrofoam and plastic boats.  Ask your child if these materials changed the outcome of the experiment.  This was definitely a controlled experiment because we returned to the control group, but only changed the material this time.  Everything else stayed the same.

Math's focus was on comparing place values and numbers.

In writing our story arcs began to take form as we organized our personal narratives.  The emotions of the story also began to take center stage, so we will be focusing in on these emotions and themes tomorrow.

KidBiz3000 was on the agenda for reading.  We gained some insight into grizzly bear protection by watching a quick video and sharing our ideas in Today's Meet.  This is a website chat room that I do not usually show to students so early in the year, but we did a pretty good job of posting appropriately to it.  This is a fantastic way to have all students share ideas and engage in a topic of curiosity.

We then walked through how to work on KidBiz3000.  We began an article about grizzly bears to connect to the video and chat.  Students will be expected to complete 2 KidBiz articles per week and a half.
