Tuesday September 23, 2015

So sorry for not posting yesterday!  I had to run out of school to a meeting at district office immediately after school and did not return to my computer until today!  Hope you are having a great day off; the teachers are hard at work during their in-service day.

Yesterday we took the first NWEA in math.  This gives us baseline data on each student in each of the standards of math.  We will use this to guide small group instruction and enrichment.

In the afternoon, RELA took their second Greek and Latin root assessment.  Those will be coming back tomorrow parents!  Look for them!

In writing, we continued to ask ourselves what our story is "really" about as we dug out the themes in the narrative Eleven.  We will apply the concept of finding what a story is "really" about to find the theme of our own narrative.

To end the day, we jumped back into Wonder.  Some student's responses to their text evidence questions were shared from the day before.  The goal was to follow RACER and really explain how your text evidence answered the question.  Below is an image of what RACER is and some great examples of our responses.

We wrapped up RELA by continuing to read Wonder and learning how to use sticky notes to annotate a chapter book.  More to come with this next week after our next two days of RELA NWEA.
