In science we continued to work with controlled experiments. Today we kept everything in our experiment the same, except we changed the mass at the end of our pendulum. Ask your child what we discovered when you ONLY change the mass in a pendulum.
In math, we continued to work with multiplying by powers of 10 across the place value chart and mentally by shifting digits.

Later in the afternoon, we reviewed our man/manu and ped Greek/Latin roots. We then continued to look at complete sentences in grammar.
In writing we began drafting our first version "flash draft" for First Times and Last Times that we have done something. These were FANTASTIC! Great first drafts of this year.
RELA focused on story elements as we began reading Wonder. Here are some questions to ask your child about what we read today- see how they respond!

August is struggling with the idea of attending school for the first time. He says, “I’ll be the only kid who looks like me.” Why is this particularly difficult for August?
Imagine the first day of fifth grade in a new middle school. Does everyone feel different and exposed in that situation?

Auggie’s Dad always makes him laugh. Is humor a way of coping with life? Is there someone in your life who makes you laugh when you are sad?
Finally, we wrapped up RELA by selecting our book club books for the first half of the first marking period. Students will receive these books and meet with their groups for the first time tomorrow.
