Again, sorry for the lack of posts. No excuses, I have been bad at it as the year has wrapped up. First day of next year, there will be posts daily!
Here are some pictures that I took from the 5th Grade Event. A massive thank you to all parents involved. The presentation was beyond awesome. Truly amazing. The kids absolutely loved it and cannot stop talking about it even today!

Sorry for being awful at posting during the last week! The end of the year has seemed to tidal wave upon us in the recent days. We just received this video from Mr. Kimball, a political science teacher from the high school. We asked seniors political questions and they responded. Enjoy!
The fifth grade event is Friday! I will post tons of pictures from this event so check in this weekend. Also, remember to wear your green monkey shirts!

Cassie entertained us with a fantastic morning meeting about her dance competition.
We then rolled right into our final MPA of the year in math.
This afternoon we organized for our Titanic essays which we will begin drafting in Google Docs tomorrow. I cannot wait to try out the peer revision and commenting features with students in Google Docs!
Since it was a band afternoon, the remaining 7 students and I did some educational competition on http://www.arcademics.com/
What a fun way to practice those "MUST KNOW" elementary facts like multiplication and division!

Kyle kicked off our morning meeting with a nice little story and character connections to his visit to his father's work.
Right after we created study guides for our Friday PWYK on ecosystems. Students should be studying these and other notes throughout the week.
In math we continued to talk about ratios but discussed them in relation to a whole.
We continued with some Frontier Fates while moving on the Oregon Trail and then began writing our final essays of the year based on whose fault it was that Titanic sank.

This morning began with Kathy telling us all about her journey to Washington DC to see her sister compete in the 2014 National Spelling Bee. I do have to admit, it was super cool seeing one of my students on ESPN last Thursday night. It sounded like she had a great time, and hopefully she will be up there within the next couple of years competing! I know she can achieve that goal.
In science we observed our polluted eco-columns and compared them to our predictions.
Math... MATH!!! Wooo! Finally we will get some solid math lessons in now that our week of jam packing in Titanic research is over (more on that later)! Today we discussed ratios and their connection to fractions.

All afternoon we focused on Titanic and the debate that would be coming at 2:30 in front of the entire fifth grade. Students got with their teams, thought of some defenses for their side (captain and crew OR shipbuilders) and then prioritized their faulty points. We then went down to the cafe/auditorium. Each side did a great job of presenting their facts and accusing the opposing viewpoint. Elborations were direct and passion was shown! After a full hour of debate, the jury was split on whose fault it had been... Tomorrow we will find out based on the results from Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Bigenho's classes. SUPERB job to all! Your research payed off massively.
